About Puck PowWow

We grew up playing hockey every day, it’s as simple as that. There was nothing more important than getting the group together and skating until the street lights created a haze that made it hard to see the puck, and sometimes we kept playing beyond that. This led to an intense hockey schedule of practices in the early mornings and games at night (thanks Mom and Dad). Back then we were known as the Parkside Crew and our team of choice was of course, the Blackhawks. Our lives were hockey, nothing mattered more. I can remember when the Hawks were in the finals against the Pen’s and my parents would make me go to sleep before the game was over because I had so-called school in the morning. I had other priorities and would kick and scream, gaining any second of hockey soaking into my eyes that I could. As soon as I had a chance I would run back and get as close to the living room as I could to hear the shots, skates, checks and most importantly the voice of Mr. Folley along with the yelling and cursing of my father. Things didn’t end so well that year. I still feel those moments when I watch today.

Hockey has never left our blood. We all played as long as we could, some went farther than others, but we still try to find as much time to get on the ice as we can. We know the game through and through. We pride ourselves on noticing the little things and do not care much about the politics of the game. It is all about what happens on the ice. We have seen the Hawks win and lose, but stand behind them no matter what. Respect the Indian.

We are going to write what we feel. If we are pissed you will read it, if we find the play of an individual to be down right amazing, you will never hear the end of it. This site was created to extend our feelings towards Hawks hockey onto others and get them to tag along on what I hope is another amazing year. Me and the other writers of this blog feel that too often the commentators miss what was really important or state the most ridiculous crap about a play or player and we want to reply to those misspoken remarks.

This is meant to be an interaction of people who freakin love the Hawks and can’t stand it when they have to miss a game. To all those out there with hockey in their blood, we welcome your comments and ideas. Just be ready to get an earful when we disagree and I wish you to do the same.

Thanks,

Hostile Hawk, Duncan Mcloud, Deuces Wild.

Great site so far, guys! A few issues: So far, we’ve seen Huet stand on his head (twice), and also sieve out like nobody’s business. He just might be the real deal if he can sort out the issues in his head (like all top goalies have to). If not, well….

Can the Hawks be successful this year without Dale Tallon? You guys talk about remembering the Finals in 1990; I remember when Tallon was a Hawk along with Pit Martin and Darcy Rota, Bill White and Keith Magnuson, Stan Mikita and Tony O. I remember cursing Bill Wirtz for letting Bobby Hull leave Chicago for Winnipeg (check out the Sports Illustrated from back then – Hull on the cover in the red jersey, still the best jersey in hockey). The team last year seemed to gell around Tallon and become a team after a horrendous start. Think they’re going to rally around Stan Bowman? I don’t think so.

And for all those fake prognosticators (Sun, Trib) who spout their opinion thinking that they can cover their ignorance with noise and interference – as long as the Hawks (or any team for that matter) play as hard as they can and leave it all on the ice, the season will have been a success. It’s a bit premature to talk about April when you haven’t shown that you can dominate on home ice (as the Hawks used to do) and battle on the road, beating Vancouver and Detroit, as well as Columbus.

So bring on Atlanta, bring on Dallas, this is for Mike and Papa Bear Halas! Oops, sorry, wrong sport, but right town. Last word – if you saw Kane hitching (what cab would pick him up?), would you give him a ride? Or would you ask him for $0.15 up front?

Remember – there can be only one!
